Love Story - Movie documentary on the late 60's band Love (2024)

My Uncle Alban Snoopy Pfisterer was the original drummer ( first and second album, Love and Da Capo ) in the band Love and he had some great stories, but if you can find the Documentary Love Story, get it. Great watch. I had to order mine through my independent record store. Have to click on the bottom link to the imdb page.

No, I interviewed Michael Stuart-Ware. There is a small paragraph on Snoopy in the Honorable Mentions section, but we've never spoken. I had a chance to see Arthur when he was doing Forever Changes live with the orchestra...and didn't go. My bad.

I didn't really know him that well. Our family was brought up on military bases overseas so I didn't live close to him until later and just saw him here and there. True hippy. Built his own all reclaimed wood house, went to India to live in an ashram for awhile etc....

Oh yeah, I knew it was one of Love's drummers. Michael Stuart was a better drummer than Snoop. I think they got MS from Sons of Champlin.
They moved Snoop to keyboards for the second album, and then he got the famous Arthur Lee Boot.
After he fired the entire first band, he got a really good drummer for the "Four Sail" LP, George Suranovich, who could play any style well.
He went up to Hendrix and told him, "Why don't you get rid of Mitch Mitchell; I could make him look like sh*t!"
Arthur fired the guitarist in the Four Sail band by telling him to go to the studio to do some recording.
When he got there, there was a note that was taped to the door that said, 'You're Fired."

Too bad you missed the Forever Changes concert. Baby Lemonade did a great job of re-creating the album live. Then Arthur fired them, too!

Love got Michael from The Sons of Adam, not Sons of Champlin. I'm aware of George Suranovich, a killer drummer with an amazing pair of hands, and yes, Arthur could be a bit of a handful, couldn't he?

Missing Arthur and Baby Lemonade (what an awful name) doing that Forever Changes concert was one of the regrets of my life, along with never experiencing Johnny Cash, Ray Charles and James Brown in concert.

Just found a promo 45 of Arthur Lee from 1972. The B side sounds like Hendrix with a hint of Soundgarden.

I've been on a Love binge lately. I watched "Love Story" and read the Forever Changes bio. It's funny, I had the 45's of Seven and Seven Is and Alone Again Or and played the grooves off, but never owned Forever Changes. I think I have Da Capo on CD. I'm late to the party but glad I came.

I may have seen one of the later versions of Love. According to the poster the show was Love, The James Gang (with Joe Walsh) and some new English band called Black Sabbath. I wonder what happened to them? It was at the Fillmore West. I remember the opening bands, but can't for the life of me remember a thing about the headliners. I'm wondering if they cancelled and someone else played? Or maybe I just wasn't familiar with the Post-Forever Changes music. It was almost 50 years ago.

Those sound like Arthur Lee style decisions. For whatever reason, he entered the world convinced everyone was out to screw him over, which, when combined with his profound narcissism and his deep seated general fear, led him to a series of limiting life choices. Given his creativity, that's a real shame.

I think his decision not to play the MPF goes deeper than that. He had a feud with Lou Adler who stole his
original band name The Grass Roots. Plus,the Love band may have not been quite up to snuff musically at the time.
