Wayne County Deputies responded to the scene of a single vehicle accident on IL64. 23-year- old Allen Hempensones of Mt. Vernon was traveling along Interstate 64 near mile marker 106 when for unknown reasons he left the roadway, striking a guard rail, and popping a tire. There were no injuries.

Wayne County responded to the scene of a car vs. deer collision. 39-year-old Fairfield resident Ryan Sagar was traveling westbound on IL Hwy 15 near Co. Rd 1400E when a deer ran into the roadway. Sagar was unable to avoid the collision causing damage to his vehicle.

Local Arrests

Illinois State Police arrested 38-year-old Mt. Vernon, IL resident Evan Boucher DeSoto, Mo on a charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. He was transported to the Wayne County Jail with bond set at $320.

32 year old Ashley Bebout of Crossville, was arrested by Wayne County on a Failure to Appear Contempt of Court warrant out of Richland County. Bebout was originally charged in Richland County in April 2022 for Driving While License Revoked.
Fairfield Police arrested 45 year old Erdest Embry of Mill Shoals, on a charge of Violation of an Order of Protection. He is currently being lodged in the Wayne County Jail.

24-year-old Hunter Sarles of Fairfield was arrested by Wayne County on 1/15, at approximately 5:40 p.m., on a Petition to Revoke Warrant and Obstructing Justice.

On 1/16 at approximately 1:06 a.m. Wayne County arrested 33-year-old Noble resident Nathan W. Ellison. Ellison was wanted on Richland County warrants for Sexual Abuse – Sexual Conduct with Threat or Force, and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Ellison was transported to the Wayne County Jail. Bond is set at $3020.

Alexis N. McKinney, 30 of Fairfield, was arrested by Wayne County on 1/16 at approximately 9:22 p.m. on a Marion County, Illinois, warrant for a charge of Improper Use of Registration or Title. Bond was set at $345.

On 1/17 at approximately 12:44 a.m. Cody L Cropper, 43 of Barnhill, was arrested by Wayne County on a charge of Criminal Damage to Property. He posted $520 and was given a court date of Feb. 23 at 1:00 p.m.

46-year-old Eric E. Vanmatre of Albion pleaded guilty in Wayne County Court on Thursday, January 12th to a Class A Misdemeanor charge of Retail Theft, stemming from a June 15, 2022 arrest. Vanmatre was ordered to pay a total of $975 in fines and court costs, and ordered to pay $50 restitution to Huck’s Convenience Store. A review hearing in this case has been set for December 7, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. The prosecuting attorney was Kevin Kakac, the defendant was represented by Heidi Hoffee, Judge Molt presided.

59-year-old Penny M. Randolph-Bailey appeared in Wayne County Court on January 12th, pleading guilty to a charge of Retail Theft, and a charge of Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine. Randolph-Bailey was initially arrested on the charge of Retail Theft, a Class A Misdemeanor, on February 10, 2022. She was again arrested on March 3, 2022 for Unlawful Possession of Meth, a Class 2 Felony. In the Retail Theft case Randolph-Bailey was ordered to pay a total of $250 in fines and costs. For the Unlawful Possession charge, Randolph-Bailey was sentenced to 24 months’ probation, given credit for 12 days served, ordered to pay $50 to a local anti-crime program, and ordered to pay a total of $4,279 in fines and court costs.

The defendant was represented by Heidi Hoffee, the prosecution was Kevin Kakac, the presiding Judge was Michael Molt. A review hearing has been set in this case for 9:00 a.m. December 7, 2023.

A trio of gun owners and a firearms retailer in southeastern Illinois have filed the first two lawsuits in what’s expected to be a flurry of litigation against the state’s new law banning the sale and manufacture of assault weapons in Illinois. Democratic leaders who pushed the ban had expected legal challenges. Senate President Don Harmon, who sponsored the legislation during lawmakers’ “lame duck” session last week, even closed his arguments during floor debate with a pithy “see you in court.” Even before Gov. JB Pritzker signed the bill into law, the Illinois State Rifle Association responded in a statement saying, “challenge accepted.” As of Tuesday afternoon – nearly a week after Pritzker’s signature on the legislation – the group still hadn’t filed its lawsuit, but ISRA’s executive director Richard Pearson said he’d be “filing a federal lawsuit imminently.”

An investigation continues after a ring-tailed lemur was found last week in a Bloomington home. King Julian was rescued by Miller Park Zoo staff and Illinois Conservation Police after it was discovered in a family’s garage Thursday. It is currently being quarantined at the zoo in Bloomington. Ring-tailed lemurs are native to the island of Madagascar.

Prosecutors won’t be filing charges in a deadly police shooting in September in Rockford. Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley announced that the officer who shot and killed Peter Jaeger was justified in his use of force. Jaeger was shot September 1st after police responded to a domestic violence call in the 41-hundred block of Linden Road.

An Effingham man is facing child p*rn charges. Police received a report Saturday on a possible a sex offense. After conducting an initial investigation, officers arrested Clarence Rodarmel. The investigation is ongoing.
